Enhanced vehicle data access for more effective fleet management

GPS-Buddy, supplier of intelligent Fleet & Asset management solutions, has entered into a strategic partnership with Beijer Automotive, specialist in universal access to complex in-vehicle data. The Beijer CAN Library has been integrated by GPS-Buddy into the chip of their latest XT4 vehicle tracking system. With the Beijer CAN Library in the XT4, CAN data from fossil and electric passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles are directly translated and communicated to the GPS-Buddy software. As a result, GPS-Buddy offers a single platform with all relevant data and services, all of which can be expanded modularly.

Various solutions

GPS-Buddy provides various solutions where accurate data from the CAN-bus in a vehicle is required, such as the Quality Mark for Journey Registration (Keurmerk Ritregistratie), automated CO2 reporting or Driver Behaviour. These examples require a wide range of signals from different brands and types of passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles, such as pure mileage, fuel/battery consumption, braking actions, engine speed, speed, accelerator pedal movements and whether or not the seat belt is used, etc.

“In principle, we develop all hardware and software in-house. But with a multitude of vehicles, it is impossible to translate all the different data into our own system. Beijer Automotive has been a specialist in the field of CAN data from vehicles for over 30 years. They have built up the most extensive library of various brands and types of passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles that are read out and translated into insightful data. The quality of the signals is very high, fast and offers a high degree of flexibility,” says Oscar van der Spruit, COO of GPS-Buddy. “That is why we have chosen to integrate their software into our system. We can thus guarantee that the data is pure and configurable for almost all applications.”

“Modern vehicles are full of sensors that generate data for optimal operation of the vehicle, but also to inform the driver. This data can also be used to optimize business processes,” says Ronald de Beijer, CEO of Beijer Automotive. “And that is exactly where GPS-Buddy’s expertise lies when it comes to fleet and equipment management.”

Connected Data

By integrating the Beijer CAN Library into the XT4 chip of GPS-Buddy, customers do not need to install different types of hardware in the vehicle. In addition to CAN-bus data from the Beijer CAN Library, the XT4 also shows data from GPS, tachograph and sensors in one system. This combination ensures that GPS-Buddy customers have control over all moving objects in the organization and can easily meet various legal obligations, such as environmental reports and mandatory trip registration.

The software solution ensures that customers can easily adapt it to future developments. For example, adding new vehicles or signals is no problem. These are measured remotely and the data is available within a few days. With the increase in electric vehicles, it is also easy to show the state of charge of an electric vehicle, so that it is clear whether a vehicle is available for use or needs to be charged first.
