Every Beijer CAN Interface (BCI) bears the BCS Ready logo. The abbreviation BCS stands for Beijer CAN Server. That is the place where all available data from almost every left-hand drive European car can be found. Products with a BCS Ready logo are suitable, if a number of conditions are met, to communicate with this server. Note: this option is exclusively reserved for BCS Premium customers. This way of communicating offers advantages, such as reading and analyzing CAN data from unknown car models, in the Netherlands and far beyond. However, there are more advantages. Namely products with the BCS Ready logo offer functionalities to be programmed and updated via the Beijer CAN Server. Products in stock can be provided with the most recent software and vehicle types. Besides, a product can be refurbished, allowing it to be reused in another vehicle.
For these options Beijer Automotive offers software made exclusively available for customers with the status “BCS Premium”. A “BCS Premium” customer purchases at least 250 interfaces per year and is being trained by Beijer Automotive. As a result, this national and international customer group has an extensive technological knowledge and has an ‘expert’ level of knowledge of our products.
A BCS Ready BCI can be recognized by the BCS Ready logo. Every BCI has three LEDs: the PWR-LED, the CAN-LED and the COM-LED. See the table with the possible status of the LEDs. IF the COM-LED is lit, the BCI has become vehicle specific. That means that the BCI is only suitable for the car model in which it was put into use. This status will only be reached over time and has no further influence on the operation of the BCI. Until the BCI becomes vehicle specific the COM-LED will not light up and will be universal and suitable for almost every left-hand drive European car.
When does the status of a BCI change from ‘universal’ to ‘vehicle specific’?
The status change of the BCI only takes place if the car has been driven for a substantial period and it can be assumed that the BCI will remain linked to the car in question. Only then will the status of the BCI change from ‘universal’ to ‘vehicle specific’. At that time, the configuration of the respective car is stored in the memory of the BCI. No one will notice and both the BCI and the system it provides will continue to function normally.
How can I tell if a BCI is new or if it has already been used?
You can tell by the COM LED. As long as the BCI is ‘universal’ the COM LED will remain off, but once the BCI has become ‘vehicle specific’ the COM LED will turn on. N.B. this status can only be read if the BCI is connected in a car or connected to a PC using a USB cable.
Can I transfer a vehicle-specific BCI into another car?
In principle, it is not possible to transfer a BCI that has the status ‘vehicle-specific’. Only in the exceptional case that the new car is exactly the same model as the car from which it comes can the BCI function properly. If you want certainty and a satisfied customer, install a new BCI or refurbish the vehicle-specific BCI.
I want to update a BCI with vehicle specific status so that I can convert it from one car to another but I am not a BCS Premium customer myself. What can I do best?

Can I update the BCI with the latest software version myself?
This is only possible if you are a BCS Premium customer. By connecting a BCI to a PC, BCS Premium customers can provide the BCI with new software with the correct software under certain conditions. If you are not a BCS Premium customer and still want to update a BCI, please contact your supplier or Beijer Automotive.
